Tucked away in the Tarentaise Valley (80km from Albertville), the famous Olympic resort of Val d’Isère is just as tempting in summer as in winter. Situated at an altitude of 1850m, between the National Parks of La Vanoise and Grand Paradis, Val d’Isère in summer is perfect for lovers of mountainside flora and fauna. All kinds of protected species can be found in the area, with numerous pathways enabling you to observe the wildlife up-close.
Summertime skiing takes place on the Grande Motte glacier from June 30th to August 15th depending on the snow conditions. The resort offers other sporting activities for all ages throughout the summer (climbing, aqua-gym, roller-blading, white water rafting and kayaking and many more). The resort has set up the “pass sports” system, providing a card to enable you to make the most of your budget – make sure you take advantage of this! As far as atmosphere goes, there are numerous restaurants, a cinema and a discothèque in Val d’Isère. Summer visitors are primarily young and sporty, and the proximity to the Italian border contributes to the liveliness of the resort.
